What is EVAFIDI and What Does It Mean for Your Business?

1 min read

EVAFIDI stands for Electronic Vehicle and Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Deployment Initiative. The EVAFIDI was launched in 2016 by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) to help provide funding and establish the following:

  • Coast to coast electronic vehicle (EV) fast chargers at core routes and highways.

  • Natural gas refuelling sites.

  • Hydrogen refuelling sites.

This initiative was put in place to aid Canadians gain confidence in switching to low or zero-emission vehicles. It has helped 58 organizations across the country receive funding to install EV chargers and refuelling stations, with a total investment of $260 million.

The EVAFIDI program has gone through two phases with the most recent ending in 2022. After reviewing what in the program worked and feedback gathered, is being used towards improving future programs.

The Canadian government is on track to reach 100% zero-emission sales by 2040, with a large portion involving the discontinuation of gas-powered vehicles and the encouragement of electronic vehicles. Becoming an early adopter of including EV chargers in your parking operation, you can take advantage of available incentives like EVAFIDI and ZEVIP (Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program).

Installing EV charging station provides you with a new set of customers and revenue previously missed, it also earns your business LEED points with Canada’s Green Building Council, and your parking infrastructure will be found on more GPS maps.
