With automation at the forefront, curbside management has taken on a fresh significance. What was once merely a place to park has evolved into a lucrative business opportunity by leveraging technology. Whether it's high traffic or not, managing the curb is integral to your parking management strategy.
We asked Paul Banyard, Account Executive at Precise ParkLink, to explain curbside management and its workings.
Q. What is curbside management and how does it work?
A. Curbside management involves a comprehensive approach at both policy and implementation levels, driving a reassessment of how the curbside is allocated and utilized. This initiative consists of taking inventory, optimizing, assigning, and overseeing curb space to maximize mobility, safety, and accessibility in response to many curb demands.
Forming a strategic curbside management plan involves several key steps. Initially, it necessitates identifying areas required for curbside management, analyzing the physical characteristics of the location, and understanding stakeholders' perspectives on existing curb space activities and expectations regarding curb space usage.
Subsequently, with this comprehensive understanding, the planning phase begins. It focuses on aligning curbside management objectives with client preferences, identifying current curb usage patterns and effectively devising customized technological and operational strategies for desired outcomes.
Extensive stakeholder engagement remains integral throughout the planning process, particularly for sizable projects. Piloting strategies within designated areas and documenting outcomes and feedback are essential for data-driven decisions. Ultimately, the finalized curbside management solution is implemented, and modifications are made as needed.
