Parking in an age fuelled by convenience is now increasingly simplified, thanks to intelligent technologies such as Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) that eliminate the need for physical touchpoints.

BLE and BLE permits have become a smart alternative to traditional access credentials. Offering these alternatives has proven to be an effective way for program managers like you, to develop a returning customer base and improve parking experiences, all while increasing operational efficiencies. Here’s how.

1.     BLE enables easy entry and exit.

What can be easier than simply driving up to a gated parking facility and being granted access instantaneously? BLE makes this dream a reality, allowing registered users automatic access to your gated parking facility by simply turning on their mobile Bluetooth. Once the registered users arrive at the parking entry or exit lane, their mobile BLE permit is detected by a BLE reader, and the gate automatically opens.

2.     BLE eliminates the need for a physical access card.

Today, not having a smartphone is more uncommon than having one. It is something that we carry with us almost every, and anywhere we go. So why not use it as an access credential too? BLE eliminates the need for physical access cards and is replaced with BLE permits hosted in a mobile app. The mobile BLE permit, validation and/or reservation will then be used as a credential to access gated parking facilities without having to do anything except turn your mobile Bluetooth on.

3.     BLE enhances parking access control.

Not only does BLE improve parking experiences, but it improves parking access control too. Physical access cards or fobs are more susceptible to being lost, creating an opportunity for unpermitted access. Bluetooth Low Energy access credentials are also secured behind the multi-factor authentication capability of smartphones, making it more difficult for their mobile permit to be compromised by external entities. They are unique to the mobile device hosted on and cannot be duplicated.

The possibilities with BLE are endless and are increasingly becoming a widely used alternative to traditional parking modes. Investing in BLE permit software will give your organization and facility the upper hand you need to transition towards a completely automated solution.
